Associate Degree Nursing

 

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

Nursing courses are offered only at Central Park Campus (CPC) in McKinney.  Applications are due by January 15th for consideration in the Summer entry class, May 31st for Fall entry, or August 31st for Spring entry.

ALL applicants must attend a Nursing Information Session

Complete a nursing application

Complete a PSB entrance exam (results valid for 12 months)

Submit signed Application Checklist

Submit ALL official transcripts in sealed envelopes:

  • Satisfactory completion (grade of "C" or better) of the prerequisite courses required for admission: Biology 2401 (Anatomy and Physiology I), Biology 2402 (Anatomy and Physiology II), Biology 2420 (Microbiology). Please note biology courses are acceptable only if taken within five years of application deadline. Cumulative GPA on the three prerequisite courses must be 2.5 or above.  Applicants can apply with two out of the three prerequisite courses completed, the third prerequisite course must be listed on an official transcript as being "in progress" to apply.  If the "in progress" course is completed prior to the official application deadline date, an updated transcript must be turned in before the application deadline in order to be considered for admission.  All prerequisite lab component(s) cannot be completed online.
  • If applicant was classified as a military service member or US military veteran who completed training within the last 10 years as: Army Combat Medic, Navy Corpsman, Hospital Corpsman, or Air Force Aerospace Medical Service, a DD214 (member 4 form) and Joint Service Manuscript along with performance reports must be submitted with nursing application.

**Immunization records are NOT to be submitted at the time of application.  Accepted students will be provided instructions on how to submit.

Upon acceptance into the ADN program, students are required to:

  • Liability insurance is provided through the school (included in your tuition)

  • Purchase school-approved uniforms for clinical experiences.

  • Obtain current CPR certification (Healthcare Provider) must be from American Heart Association.

  • Have the Dental Form and Pre-Entrance Medial Form completed by your dentist and physician.

  • Complete all required immunizations and provide copies of immunization records.

  • Complete a TB (Tuberculosis) skin test and provide a copy of the results annually.

  • Agree to a criminal background check.

  • Complete drug screening at the student’s expense on a date specified by Dean of Nursing prior to the start of school.

  • Health Insurance documentation. All nursing students must provide documentation of having a health insurance policy.

THE NURSING EXPERIENCE
Nursing is a demanding but rewarding career. Upon acceptance into the nursing program, you must make a commitment to hard work and study to be successful in the program. The following suggestions are strongly recommended:

  1. Limit full-time work to fewer hours so that you have time to study nursing.

  2. Complete as many of the support courses as possible before starting the nursing courses.

  3. Allow at least 10 hours per week to study and prepare for class and clinical.

  4. Get a good night's sleep before the clinical, class, or learning experience.
